A Study of the Conservation and Restoration of the Mosaic Floors of the Churches : Sts Cosmas and Damianus and Bishop Genesius in Jarash

The study presents an overview of the history of conservation and restoration of mosaics in Jordan in general with a special emphasis on those discovered in Jarash. The work gives a detailed evaluation regarding international charters, and ethics and norms of the issue of conservation in Jordan. Specifically it addresses the correlation between quarries and stones used in mosaic floors with an insight into the technology of the Byzantine period, vital for future interventions. It identifies the deterioration factors and gives suggestions on their reduction with a proposal for a conservation approach that may serve as a model for cultural resources management not only in Jarash but also at other sites in Jordan.
