résumé de l'AIEMA | :
This monograph examines the six thousand years of Samsat Mound in four main chapters: Mediaeval Era; Hellenistic and Roman periods; Iron, Late and Middle Bronze Ages, and the Prehistoric period.
On the north side of the mound, between levels 2 and 3, a geometric mosaic composed of white and brownish tesserae was revealed. In level 3, on the south side of the mound is a figurative mosaic from the 6th c. A.D. It represents a figure with a short skirt holding a gazelle, running animals, as well as a lion's head. The chapter on the Roman period of Samosata mentions the mosaic artist Zosimos from Samosata, whose name appears on two mosaics in Zeugma.
The palace of the Commagene Kings was revealed on the south side of the mound, in level 5. Here seven rooms are paved with mosaics which are dated to the Late Hellenistic period. These represent geometric designs, various fish and a satyr. |
