Report on the 2005 Excavation and Restoration Campaign at Sagalassos

Mention of mosaic floor (opus tessellatum) decorating the Late Roman dwelling in the Domestic Area, esp. in rooms nr. XVII, XXXV. Mention of mosaic fragments found in room nr. XLVI which form new evidence for the earthquake damage in the area. Excavation of a cross shaped frigidarium (Frigidarium 2) in the Roman baths. In the central hall, the edge of a mosaic floor is exposed which suggests the presence of the original cold water ‘piscina’. Test soundings in the sanctuary of Apollo Klarios. The temple was converted to a Christian tripartite transept basilica probably in the later 5 th / early 6th c. A.D. The finds show that the walls were decorated with crustae or wall veneering, glass mosaics and frescoes.
