This article shows research into the imperial Villa Magna, near Agnani, especially into its splendidly decorated winery. Its brickstamps seem to point to a late Trajanic or early Hadrianic date. When describing previous structures, the authors mention a fragmentary opus signinum surface found under one of the floors of the winery (p. 340). They also allude to other opera signina dating from the construction of the building. Moreover, they mention pavements in mosaic, opera sectilia and marble wall revetment (especially p. 344-345). In the discussion about the luxurious decor, they refer to the mosaic showing Lycurgus with Dionysian banqueters in Vienna (Sainte-Colombe) [p. 360]. |
