Rescue excavations in 1998 revealed an upper-class living quarter of the 1st to 5th c. AD with wall paintings and a private bath. Mainly during the later building phases several rooms were used for commercial and industrial purposes. On top of one of the mosaic floors a hoard of copper ingots was discovered, originally tied together with organic material, and a Roman bronze coin of the early 3rd c. Ingots of this kind served as raw material for copper smiths. Microstructural investigations revealed a blistered copper of hypereutectical Cu-Cu2O-matrix. Casting experiments demonstrate the influence of humidity and wetness of the mould materials on the amount of blistering. (APh n°79-08566) |
